The 76-room hotel will be a Staybridge Suites, which is part of the InterContinental Hotels Group. The Staybridge Suites brand, which caters to extended-stay and corporate lodgers, has locations in Knoxville, Greenville, South Carolina, and Charlotte, North Carolina.
ICH also owns the Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza and Candlewood Suites brands. The $3.5 million hotel will overlook most of North Johnson City, including the Holiday Inn on West Springbrook Drive.
There are a number of other other hotels — not owned by ICH —located along the busy section of North Roan Street, near the Interstate 26 interchange.
Founded in 1997, Staybridge Suites has more than 220 hotels located in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe.
Franchise owner Mike Patel says the opening of the Staybridge Suites in Johnson City will mark the conclusion to what has been a two-year project. Grading work on the 2.3-acre site began in late 2016 after the city’s development office took several months to review construction plans for the hotel.
The last new hotel built in Johnson City was a 90-room Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott. It opened in 2016 near the Hamilton Place shopping center off North State of Franklin Road.
