Local residents invited to honor the late Rev. Billy Graham

University Parkway Baptist Church and Tetrick Funeral Home are offering local residents a couple of opportunities to join the nationwide remembrance of the late Rev. Billy Graham.

On Tuesday night, the church will host a celebration of life service for Graham, who died at his home in Montreat, N.C., on Wednesday at age 99.

The service will begin at 7 p.m. at the church at 219 University Parkway with Associate Pastor Scott Thompson officiating. The public is invited.

Those who wish to offer their condolences to Graham’s family may are invited to sign and share their sentiments with the family in a register to be available at the funeral home to through March 3.

The register will be located at Tetrick Funeral & Cremation Services at 3001 Peoples St., from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 24-Friday, March 2. A memorial banner honoring Graham has been placed at the entrance to the funeral home.

The register will be located at the church from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 27 and 28.

The register books will be presented to the family at a later date.

Billy Gillenwater of Tetrick Funeral & Cremation Services said, “Since Rev. Graham touched so many lives in a positive way, we wanted our community to have a way to stop and pay their respects.”

“This is one way we can show the family of Rev. Graham the incredible influence he had in our lives and in our society,” Gillenwater said.

A private funeral service for Graham is planned for Friday, March 2, at Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, N.C. More than 2,000 people are expected to attend the invitation-only service.

In Washington, Graham’s body will be placed in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda for public viewing Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 28 and March 1.
