ELIZABETHTON — Children in Elizabethton got the opportunity to make last-minute requests of Santa Claus this week.

On Wednesday morning, the Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library hosted a milk and cookies party with Santa and also provided all the construction materials for a major gingerbread house activity for the boys and girls. The construction materials included candy canes, lollipops and frosting.

Although this is certainly a hectic time for Santa, he appeared calm and focused as many boys and girls lined up for the chance to sit on his lap and put in a request for a doll or a game.

Children’s Librarian Ashlee Williams said the event was a joint effort by the library, the University of Tennessee Extension Service and Second Harvest Food Bank.

Williams said 49 children, accompanied by 38 adults, Santa Claus and lots of Santa’s helpers participated in the Milk and Cookies with Santa opportunity.

For those boys and girls who missed Santa on Wednesday, there is another chance Thursday. The Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department will host Story Time with Santa at the Recreation Center, 300 W. Mill St. in Blackbottom from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Santa will be reading a story to children and listening to their Christmas wishes. Moms and dads can snap photos of their child in Santa’s lap. There will also be a photographer on hand.

There will be free inflatables, cookies and milk and free Christmas-themed books (while supplies last) courtesy of the Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library.

The University of Tennessee Extension Service is also a sponsor of this visit from Santa.
