The East Tennessee State University community and the public are invited to be part of a Celebration of Life Service in memory of Dr. Chris Dula on Sunday, January 13, at 1 p.m. in Brooks Gymnasium. Dr. Dula passed away January 8 at 6:45 a.m. after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Dr. Dula was a well-known and beloved faculty member who joined the ETSU Department of Psychology in 2004. He had a profound influence on the thousands of students who took his courses, and he will be forever remembered for the many ways he encouraged and inspired them to be successful, realize their dreams, and engage in the transformational power of higher education. In addition to being known for his love of music, Dr. Dula was a strong advocate for giving back and serving the community.

During his tenure at ETSU, Dr. Dula claimed the highest honor awarded to an ETSU faculty member, the ETSU Distinguished Faculty Award for Teaching, and he was the keynote speaker at Commencement in May 2016. Dr. Dula received numerous awards and honors while at the institution, including the School of Graduate Studies Outstanding Mentor Award in 2015. Later this semester, the inaugural Dr. Chris Dula Day of Service will be held at ETSU.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Dr. Dula’s family, friends, colleagues and former students. To honor Dr. Dula’s tradition of collecting food for those in need, guests attending the Celebration of Life Service on Sunday are encouraged to bring canned food items.
