The band had been asked by Walt Disney World to perform at the Magic Kingdom and Epcot. One of the buses transporting the band had mechanical problems, which led to the bus breaking down in South Carolina. Another bus was summoned to transport the band members the rest of the way, but it took over four hours for the replacement bus to reach the stranded band members.
“They lost quite a bit of time they had planned on to tour the park,” said Vicky Manuel, one of the parents of the band members who made the trip down.
Once the replacement bus arrived, Manuel said the band members had to unload their gear from the broken down bus and then load everything into the replacement.
“They all adjusted well,” Manuel said. “They all did everything in the park they wanted to do.”
Manuel said that despite the mishap and despite a very hot day, the band’s performance was excellent.
“They did great,” Manuel said.
The band members did not let the hot weather slow them down. “None of the kids got sick and they all had a great time,” Manuel said.
It was over much too soon. They reloaded the buses Saturday evening for the all-night trip home to Tennessee, where another month of school awaits before summer vacation — and summer band camp for the non-seniors.
