Dominique Marsalis Fleming, 25, 3848 Eastline Drive, was charged with murder and attempted murder after the pregnant woman lost her fetus from a north Johnson City trailer park beating, a prosecutor said. Fleming was captured in Rogersville by the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office deputies and U.S. marshals.
Fleming was arraigned on the charges Monday and attorney Russell Kloosterman was appointed to represent him.
About 10 p.m. Nov. 3, neighbors found the woman suffering severe head injuries from an assault at Big Valley Trailer Park off the Bristol Highway, prompting police to seek the public’s help in the investigation. The woman was taken to Johnson City Medical Center Hospital. Police said the fetus died because of complications from her injuries.
Police established Fleming as a suspect and obtained a warrant resulting from a court presentment on Wednesday. Fleming was found at 103 Bowlin Lane, Rogersville, where he was taken into custody without incident.
Fleming remains jailed in the Washington County Detention Center under $500,000 bond.
In 2012, Fleming was one of two men indicted on three counts of aggravated robbery stemming from an incident at 143 Garden Drive. Fleming also was indicted on a charge of aggravated criminal trespassing because he was banned from the Johnson City Housing Authority property where the robbery occurred.
According to police, the men went to the address on Garden Drive with a gun and took three cell phones and a set of car keys from the victims. Fleming also fired a shot at one victim, and the bullet went through the man’s shirt, struck the wall and fell to the floor. The man was not injured.
According to the Tennessee Department of Correction’s website, Fleming’s felony sentence ended on March 1.
