The Elizabethton Kiwanis Club was founded on March 2, 1928, at a time when Elizabethton was enjoying the heady days of the “Rayon Boom.” The Elizabethton club is one of the oldest within the Kiwanis region.
The big celebration will be held at 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall of First Christian Church, 513 Hattie Ave. Entertainment will be provided by David Arney and the Elizabetehton High School Men’s Ensemble, under the direction of Debbie Gouge.
The club is always looking forward as well as back to its past. This is reflected by the invitation to members of the Key Clubs from Unaka and Elizabethton High schools to assist with the big event.
Food will be catered by J’s Corner and Jarod Ellis.
“Kiwanis is unified in the belief that the children and community benefit from the efforts of a group of caring and involved volunteers,” club President Tyler Fleming said. “The men and women in Kiwanis support local children alongside various organizations in Elizabethton, Carter County and the surrounding area. We host fundraisers throughout the year and are always looking for new ways to improve opportunities for youth in our community.” He said the club is always “accepting new members with a heart for service.”
