Tri-Cities Toy & Hobby Show calling all collectors

The spring edition of the Tri-Cities Toy & Hobby Show will be held Saturday, March 10, at the Appalachian Fairgrounds in Gray.

A fun event for kids of all ages, the sold-out show in the fairground’s Commercial Building No. 1 will feature 30 different vendors and 94 tables of merchandise.

The collectible wares up for sale include more than 6,000 autographed baseball cards, many of which can be viewed in advance along with other show merchandise at the Tri-Cities Toy and Hobby Show page on Facebook.

From its beginning as an annual fundraiser for the Children’s Miracle Network, the show has grown into a biannual event now benefiting a variety of local charities. Proceeds from Saturday’s show will go to Coalition for Kids, a free, nonprofit after-school program for Johnson City schoolchildren with special needs identified by their teachers.

The Toy & Hobby Show will be repeated this fall with proceeds going to the Johnson City/Washington County Animal Shelter.

Event coordinator Michael Stevens expressed appreciation for the show’s dealers and guests whose loyalty has allowed the event to expand and he is requesting suggestions on how to further improve it. Look for Stevens on Saturday at the show. Hours are from 9 a.m. until 3 pm. Admission is $5 and free for children age 12 and younger.

The Community Help Center of Northeast Tennessee has kicked off its annual Hunger Challenge Campaign.

Located at the intersection of Gray Station/Sulphur Springs Road (Tenn. Highway 75) and Tenn. Highway 81 North in Jonesborough, the Help Center will be collecting donations of non-perishable food items through the end of April.

Coinciding with the Hunger Challenge Campaign, a country fried steak dinner to benefit the help center will be held Sunday, March 18, at nearby Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church. The dinner will begin at 12:30 p.m., following Sunday services at the historic church at 1432 Gray Station/Sulphur Springs Road.

The cost is a donation for the help center’s pantry and Snack Pack Program for local schoolchildren in need. Nonperishable food items will also be collected at the dinner.

The Crumley House Brain Injury and Rehabilitation Center is signing up runners and walkers for its 7th Annual Joggin’ for the Noggin.

The benefit 5K will be held Saturday, March 24, on the scenic, 32-acre Crumley House campus located at 300 Urbana Road, Limestone.

Awards will be presented to the top three finishers in eight age categories, ranging from 12 and younger to 70 and older.

The race will begin 10 a.m. and will be followed by the post race pancake breakfast at 11:30.

The registration fee is $25 through March 17 and $30 March 18 through the day of the race. Those who register early will receive a long sleeve, wicking performance shirt.

Proceeds will go to the nonprofit Crumley House’s individualized rehabilitative services for people who have suffered brain injuries.
