“While most people know the American Cancer Society for our research, (their) support allows us to do so much more,” said Holly Booker, community development manager in the Tri-Cities.
“We attack cancer from every angle,” she said. “We promote healthy lifestyles to help you prevent cancer, we research cancer and its causes to find more answers and better treatments. We fight for lifesaving policy changes. we provide everything from emotional support to the latest cancer information for those who have been touched by cancer. And we do it all 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
Spirits of the Season raised more than $30,000 last year, and all proceeds went to to the local American Cancer Society chapter.
This year’s event will be tonight (Friday, Nov. 9) at 6:30 at the Carnegie Hotel. Tickets are available at both One Stop Wines and Spirits locations — 1735 W. State of Franklin Road or 2710 N. Roan St. — for $75 per person.
There will also be a silent auction during the event.
One Stop Wine and Spirits completely underwrites the event, which allows ticket sales to go to the chapter. Other sponsors include State of Franklin Healthcare Associates, Ballad Health, Citi and Auto Nation.
“By taking what we’ve learned through research and translating it into action, we’ve contributed to a 25 percent decrease in the overall U.S. cancer death rate since 1991. That means that we helped avoid nearly 2.1 million cancer deaths during that time,” Booker said.
“We believe we have an opportunity, and a responsibility, to lead the cancer right in a way no other organization can.”
