Looking for smooth goings at the holidays

The holidays mean long days and quiet nights for Cathy Loye, who serves as general manager of Stein Mart in Johnson City.

“This time of year it is a team effort, and I do what it takes to help our customers, my associates and the store,” she said.

Loye is a member and past president of the Johnson City Evening Rotary Club. She is definitely a dog person, and has photos of Dottie, her beloved dachshund terrier mix, on her smartphone to prove it.

And “Christmas in Dixie” by Alabama is her favorite holiday song.

What’s the most demanding part of your job during the holidays?

“The long hours that make for long days and short nights.”

What’s your favorite part of the workday?

“My favorite part of any day during the holidays is when it all goes smoothly with no unexpected issues of any kind. Those times are few and far between, but they do happen.”

How do you deal with stress?

“Go home to quiet with no noise of any kind to rejuvenate and get ready for the next day.”

What advice do you give to friends on Christmas shopping?

“Shop early and know what you want.”

Do you have a favorite Christmas sweater, and if you do, how often do you wear it?

“I don’t have a favorite sweater, but I do have enough Christmas sweaters and Christmas attire to wear a different sweater/outfit from Thanksgiving to Christmas. People who know me won’t find that hard to believe.”
