The boys contest was a 64-57 overtime decision for Unicoi County over the Cougars.
The Lady Cougars improved to 26-2 with the perfect 12-0 league record and used baskets from Peyton Sams, Macy McClellan and Abby Crawford in the final quarter to overcome a 30-29 deficit.
Crawford paced Sullivan Central with 11 points as Sams and McClellan both had nine apiece.
Unicoi County (13-13, 3-8) built a 23-18 halftime lead thanks to Ashtan Vance. She scored 15 of her game-best 16 points in the opening half.
Unicoi County 64, Sullivan Central 57
The Blue Devils (15-12, 6-5) enjoyed a 50-35 lead going into the fourth quarter, but Sullivan Central forced overtime. The Cougars’ Joltin Harrison hit a 3-pointer as the clock ran out in regulation to force a 57-57 tie and an extra four minutes.
Harrison hit a half-dozen 3-pointers to lead the visitors with 18 points, including five makes in the second half.
That four-minute stretch belonged to Unicoi County as Bryson Peterson had five of his team-best 18 points. The sophomore guard was 12 of 14 at the free-throw line, sinking 12 in a row. Robbie O’Dell had the other score in overtime.
Lucas Slagle helped the Blue Devils to the 50-35 lead with half of his 14 points in the third quarter. Nicholas Hensley accounted for a dozen points with eight of those in the first half.
Sullivan Central (9-20, 4-8) got 10 points from Preston Sams with nine more from Ty Barb.
The boys’ contest served a preview of the District 1-AA Tournament as these two teams will meet in the 4-5 match up next Friday at Sullivan East. Unicoi County took both meetings against the Cougars this season.
Unicoi County has a Three Rivers Conference trip to Elizabethton Wednesday and Sullivan Central faces off with Dobyns-Bennett Friday.
