The Buffs will look to extend the streak Wednesday night as they travel to play Kentucky Christian University.
With their undefeated record in the month of January, Milligan (10-6, 8-4 AAC) has made an important move in the AAC standings. Milligan is tied for third place with Montreat College, who defeated the Buffaloes earlier in the season in overtime. Allen, which has lost twice to Milligan, is in second place. First-place Union is ranked No. 19 in the country and beat the Buffs in their first meeting.
Milligan is led by senior Jacob Cawood, who was named the AAC player of the week for the first time in his career. Cawood averaged 25 points as he scored a career-high 29 in the Buffs’ victory over Allen. He scored 21 in the win over Truett McConnell. Cawood leads the team in scoring, averaging 15.1 points per game. He has 63 rebounds on the season.
Other leaders for the Buffs include Desean Green, who leads the team and the AAC in assists. Green has 73 assists and is averaging 4.9 per game. Green also ranks third in the AAC with steals per game with 29 overall and 1.9 per game. Mike Featherston leads the team in rebounds with 128, averaging eight per game, and he ranks second in the AAC with blocks per game (29 for 1.8 per game).
Milligan returns to Steve Lacy Fieldhouse on Saturday, Jan. 18, for an AAC matchup against Columbia International University. Game time is set for 4 p.m., following the women’s game at 2 p.m.
Gose scores new career high
The Milligan women’s basketball team is trying to shake off a slow start to the season, but senior Kaely Gose has remained a positive contributor. Gose leads the team in scoring, rebounds and blocks. She has had seven double-double efforts. In the team’s nonconference matchup against Warren Wilson last week, Gose scored a career high of 30 points and added 14 rebounds. She went 8-for-12 from the floor and 2-for-3 from the perimeter while adding a 12-for-14 effort at the free throw line.
Along with Gose, sophomore Halie Padgett has been an asset to the team with 12.2 points per game. Padgett has 121 rebounds on the season and 20 steals. Padgett has recorded four double-doubles this season and leads the team in steals. Senior Emily Kiser, who has been battling injury this season, leads the team in scoring alongside Gose. Kiser is averaging 13.7 points per game, and in AAC play she averages 16.4 points per game.
Milligan (7-12, 5-8 AAC) is currently going on a two-game winning streak as they defeated Truett McConnell last Thursday and Warren Wilson on Saturday. The Buffs travel to Kentucky Christian Wednesday as part of a doubleheader with the men. The women’s game begins at 5:30 p.m., and the men follow at 7:30 p.m.
