High school roundup: Unaka snags road win at Cloudland

ROAN MOUNTAIN — Unaka went on the road and captured a 54-49 win over Watauga Valley Conference rival Cloudland on Tuesday night at Sonny Smith Gym.

John Ramsey led the way with a 17-point effort. Will Sexton contributed 14 in the Unaka win and Isaac Hill ended with 10 points.

Robert Leeper was the high scorer for the Highlanders with 14 points. Josh Blair was next up with 11 points and Elijah Blair had nine.

Johnson County 51, Happy Valley 42

ELIZABETHTON — Blake Atwood had a game-high 22 points to lead the Longhorns over the Warriors in the Three Rivers Conference contest.

Zach Eller had seven while a balanced attack included six points each from Michael Oxentine, Gavin Reece and Troy Arnold.

Noah Stevens netted 20 for Happy Valley. Bryce Carter had 10 and Blake Young finished with nine for the Warriors.

Tennessee High 93, Volunteer 64

CHURCH HILL — Christian Webb scored 20 first-half points and ended with 23 overall as the Vikings romped past the Falcons.

McHale Bright tallied 16 points, while Brandon Brown had 13 and Nolan Wishon ended with 12.

Brody Hunley led Volunteer with 17 points. Chance Johnson scored 13 and Eli Churchwell added 11.

Sullivan South 64, Sullivan East 59

KINGSPORT — The Rebels used a balanced attack to get by the Patriots in the Three Rivers Conference contest.

Cole Layne and Chase Bowery each finished with 17 points to lead South. Ben Diamond and Gannon Chase each netted 11 points.

Dylan Bartley had a game-high 25 points to lead East, which got 15 points from Dustin Bartley and nine from Adam Davison.

North Greene 48, Sullivan North 38

KINGSPORT — Turner Bailey scored 19 points to lead the Huskies over the Golden Raiders. Trey Williams led North with 14 points, followed by Tyler Depriest with 11.

Tri-Cities Christian 42, Providence Academy 32

An all-around effort of 12 points, 11 rebounds and five assists by Adam Pigeon led the Eagles in their conquest of the Knights.

Drew Correll also had 12 points for Tri-Cities. Chris Miller had 11 points and Cameron Patterson had 10 to lead Providence. 

Monday’s Game

Sullivan North 62, Clinch 38

CLINCH — Yancy Dolen led three North players in double figures with 14 points in the Golden Raiders’ win over the Wildcats.

Dale Potter totaled 12 points and Trey Williams netted 11. Seth Lawson scored 12 points and Zack Prew came through with eight to lead Clinch.


Cloudland 56, Unaka 35

ROAN MOUNTAIN — Trinity Vines had 18 points and the Lady ’Landers pulled away from the Lady Rangers in the second quarter and never looked back.

Megan Lunsford had 11 points and Gracie Freeman had nine as Cloudland hit 11 shots from 3-point range.

Savannah Tipton had 15 points to pace Unaka and Myah Parlier finished with seven.

Happy Valley 61, Johnson County 36

ELIZABETHTON — Adrienne Henegar continued her blistering pace with a 23-point performance to lead the Lady Warriors over the Lady Longhorns.

Shalyn Whitson powered her way to a dozen points and Tiana Long netted 11.

Taylor Cox was Johnson County’s leader with 15 points. Taylor Parsons and Sadie Stout each totaled seven.

Volunteer 67, Tennessee High 42

CHURCH HILL — Bryna Minton hit six shots from 3-point range and finished with 22 points as the Lady Falcons flew over the Lady Vikings.

Chloe Salyer had a dozen points and Kenady Knittel was right behind her with 11 in the Volunteer victory.

Riley Fritts was 9-for-11 from the free-throw line, scoring a team-best 14 points for Tennessee High.

Sullivan South 49, Sullivan East 32

KINGSPORT — Up by one at the break, the Lady Rebels outscored the Lady Patriots 36-20 in the second half to pull away.

Carissa Comsa led South with 12 points, followed closely by Mollie Leslie with 11 and Alex Harris with 10 points.

Hayley Grubb had 14 points to lead Sullivan East. 

North Greene 56, Sullivan North 18

KINGSPORT — Lilly Crawford and Lensey Tanner each had six points in a losing effort for the Lady Raiders. North Greene had three players in double figures.

Providence Academy 60, Tri-Cities Christian 15

Christen Sholes scored 20 points and Katie Cross ended with 12 points and nine rebounds to lead the Lady Knights.

Annette Beverly finished with 11 points, while Callie Burchette contributed seven points and 11 rebounds. Gracie Thompson grabbed eight rebounds.

Sarah Rice had nine of the Lady Eagles’ 15 points.

Monday’s Game

Sullivan North 48, Clinch 30

CLINCH — Lilly Crawford scored 10 points, while Sahara Bates finished with eight and Lensey Tanner had six as the Lady Golden Raiders corralled the Lady Wildcats.

Katie Nichols scored 10 points to lead Clinch.
