Lady Bucs, HV advance to Carolina championships

CHARLESTON, S.C.—University High has garnered a berth in the Carolina Invitational championship game of its division.

The Lady Bucs did so by defeating Augusta (Ga.) Prep 32-19 in Friday’s semifinal round.

Gracie Crabtree and Calli Newberry poured in eight points apiece for UH (8-5), with Bekah Rice netting six points to go with 15 rebounds.

The Bucs will play at 2:30 p.m. in Saturday’s final.

In other Carolina action from Friday, Happy Valley bested West Ashley, S.C. 37-32 and David Crockett was edged 41-39 by host team Cane Bay.

CHARLESTON, S.C.—Adrienne Henegar scored 14 points and Shalyn Whitson added 13 as the Lady Warriors advanced to their division championship.

Olivia Absher finished with seven points for the Lady Warriors. HV plays Greer, S.C., in Saturday’s final — beginning at 2:30 p.m.

CHARLESTON, S.C.—Emma Gouge, with 11 points, and Kara Weems, eight points and eight rebounds, led the way for the Lady Pioneers in a nip-and-tuck affair.

Mackenzie Baldwin grabbed nine rebounds while Matty McKee (6 points) and Emily Trivette (5) combined for 11 points. All the aforementioned players are underclassmen except Weems, who is a senior. Trivette is just a freshman.

Alaina Nettles produced 18 points for the Lady Cobras.

Crockett has one more game in the tournament, taking on Statford, S.C., today at 1 p.m.

Union, Va. 70

EMORY, Va.—Jayda Smith poured in 32 points for a Union team that tore away from a 40-40 end-of-third-quarter tie.

Heather Lipps added 12 points and Emili Brooks 10 to the winning cause.

Riley Nelson was tops for the Lady Patriots, accumulating 19 points. Hayley Grubb followed with 16 while Kylee Wolfe scored 11.

The game was played at Emory & Henry College.

KNOXVILLE—Isaac Hill, John “Boy” Ramsey and Ryan Johnson had a combined 48 points for the fast-starting Rangers at the Berean Christian holiday tournament.

Hill scored a game-high 17 points, with Ramsey and Johnson contributed 16 and 15, respectively. Johnson did all of his scoring on five 3-pointers.

Unaka outscored the Cherokees 20-7 in the opening quarter. The Rangers complete their Berean stay with a 1:30 p.m. game against First Baptist Academy on Saturday.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.—Nico Ashley tossed in 11 points and Evan Perkins 10 for the Cyclones in action from the Sunshine Classic.

Elizabethton lost after leading 19-16 at halftime.
