High school roundup: Rangers slip past Rockwood on the road

ROCKWOOD—John “Boy” Ramsey and Ryan Johnson combined for 29 points Friday night, pushing Unaka to a 45-42 victory over Rockwood.

Ramsey was tops with 15 points while 14-point man Johnson converted four times from behind the 3-point arc.

Will Sexton had a noteworthy night in assists and the Rangers proved to be more assertive rebounders in the second half.

Nate Brackett tossed in 16 points for the Tigers, who led 19-18 at halftime. Brett Sands scored 11.

Wartburg Central 74

Cloudland 73, OT

WARTBURG—The Highlanders lost a dandy with Wartburg Central, falling in overtime after wiping out a double-digit deficit early in the contest.

Elijah Langley did much of the heavy lifting for the Bulldogs, totaling 23 points on the strength of five 3-pointers. Jake Branstetter and Caleb McCarty came through with complementary performances, netting 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Cloudland got 18 points from Robert Leeper while Bentley Gilbert fired in 15 and Conner Birchfield 12.

Regulation ended in a 65-65 tie.

HILTON HEAD, S.C.—Anchored by Kaleb Meredith’s 24-point, 13-rebound double-double, the Bucs won convincingly at the Seahawk Classic.

Meredith also made three steals. UH got 19 points and seven boards from Marshall Fleenor, plus a 14-point night out of Colin Daniel.

The Bucs converted a dozen 3-pointers, with Daniel and Fleenor each nailing four.

KINGSPORT—Senior guard Marae Foreman accounted for 20 points and reached the 1,000 mark for his career as the Indians notched a one-sided victory.

D-B also benefited from Chad Browder’s 12-point showing. High scorers for the Cougars were Ben Williams with 12 points and Trey Rosenbalm accumulating 11.

WARTBURG—Trinity Vines amassed 14 points for the Lady Highlanders, who held Wartburg to six or fewer points in all but the second quarter.

Cloudland got the job done by dominating two quarters, outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 17-2 in the first and 17-6 in the fourth.

Jasmine Birchfield and Megan Lunsford chipped in eight points apiece for the ’Landers.

Callie Johnson led Wartburg with 13 points. Madison Williams contributed eight.

KINGSPORT—The Lady Indians breezed to victory behind a 22-point night by Courtney Whitson.

Jabrea Johnson pitched in 12 points for D-B, which led 33-9 at intermission.

Macy McClellan paced the Lady Cougars with 11 points.

BRISTOL—Kara Long worked for 17 points, the bulk of those coming on four 3-pointers, in lifting Lebanon to a come-from-behind semifinal victory over the Lady Rebels.

Alyssa Padilla deposited 12 points and Averie Price 11 into the victory.

South, which carried a 24-15 lead to halftime, was paced by Alex Harris’ 13 points.

BRISTOL—With Kylee Wolfe racking up 17 points and five 3-pointers, the Lady Patriots spanked Tennessee High in a losers’ bracket game.

Mattie Gouge and Hayley Grubb each amassed 15 points for East. Emma Aubrey chimed in with 12.

The Lady Vikings’ Kenzie Nickles closed with 15 points. Teammate Autumn Cathey had 14.
