High school roundup: Greeneville holds off David Crockett

GREENEVILLE — Jaevon Gillespie had 22 points and eight rebounds to lead Greeneville to a 75-67 win over David Crockett in boys’ basketball action on Tuesday night.

Austin Loven hit double figures with 10 points, while Kaleb Crumley and Tyler Marsh barely missed double digits with nine points each.

Mack Hensley knocked down seven shots behind the 3-point line in a 23-point performance. Mason Britton had 14 points and six rebounds, while Ayden Begley added 13 points.

Dobyns-Bennett 63, Jefferson County 49

DANDRIDGE — Marae Foreman produced a 20-point night as the Indians rallied from an early deficit to get the best of coach Chris Poore’s former team.

Charlie Browder made his inside presence known with 13 points and Riamello Wadsworth finished with 10.

Jonah Hillard and Ryan Cusick each finished with 12 points to lead the Indians.

Johnson County 59, Hampton 46

MOUNTAIN CITY — Blake Atwood had a double-double of 26 points and 10 rebounds for the Longhorns, who pulled away from the Bulldogs in the fourth quarter of their rivalry game.

Zach Eller finished with 15 points and Troy Arnold had an all-around effort of 12 points, six rebounds and five steals.

Rocky Croy paced Hampton with 14 points, while Jonah Jones finished with 10 points.

South Greene 57, Unaka 54

ELIZABETHTON — Ryan Johnson had 28 points with 21 of them coming from 3-point range as the Rangers lost in overtime to the Rebels. Isaac Hill added 14 points for Unaka.

Lennart Schultz was the leading scorer for South Greene with 20 points. Nick Fillers netted eight points.

Honaker Va. 56, Sullivan North 53

KINGSPORT — Grayson Honaker led Honaker with 23 points and Trajon Boyd added 14 points for the Tigers.

C.J. Mardis was one of three Golden Raiders in double digits with 14 points. Right behind him was Tyler Depriest with 13 points and Zach Scott with 12.

Twin Springs, Va. 65, Tri-Cities Christian 59

NICKELSVILLE — Justin Reed had 34 points, which included five shots from 3-point range, and made 9 of 11 attempts from the free-throw line, in the Titans’ overtime win over the Eagles.

Jordan Gillenwater scored nine points and Tanner Collins added eight.

Adam Pigeon had 15 points and a dozen rebounds, and Drew Correll had 15 points and 10 rebounds for Tri-Cities, which also got 13 points and five assists from Gavyn Etter.

Monday’s games

University High 80, KACHEA 68

Kaleb Meredith led four Bucs players in double digits with 24 points, sinking 10 of his 13 foul shots. Colin Daniel scored an efficient 22 points, going 5 of 6 from 3-point range and 7 of 8 at the free-throw line.

Jake Hubbard had 15 points and seven rebounds and Mason Broome added 12 points and seven rebounds.

KACHEA was led by Caleb Shinault with 17 points. Jacob Reese finished with 12 points and James Reese had 10 for the Wildcats.

Cloudland 64, Happy Valley 58

ROAN MOUNTAIN — Hunter Shell scored 19 points to lead the Highlanders over the Warriors in the cross-county game.

Josh Blair came through with 15 points and Robert Leeper accounted for 14 in the Cloudland win.

Happy Valley’s Bryce Carter led all scorers with 20 points, while James Harmon ended with a dozen.

GIRLS

Greeneville 64, David Crockett 49

GREENEVILLE —Briley Jones led a trio of Lady Devils in double figures with 15 points. Leah Fillers was right behind with 14 points and Alana Collins scored 12.

Emma Gouge paced the Lady Pioneers with 13 points. Halle Scott scored 10 and Karolina Palomino totaled eight.

 Dobyns-Bennett 55, Jefferson County 39

DANDRIDGE — Courtney Whitson fired in a game-high 28 points to lead the Lady Indians to the non-conference win over the Lady Patriots. Caitlyn Wallace finished with eight points.

Alexa Gramann ended with 17 points and Makayla Alvey tallied 13 to lead Jefferson County.

Johnson County 49, Hampton 47

MOUNTAIN CITY — The Lady Longhorns held on as Stephanie Campbell came up with a steal for the Lady Bulldogs, but missed a shot at the buzzer.

Taylor Cox led the way for Johnson County with a 22-point effort. Natalie Winters contributed nine to the cause.

Campbell finished with 21 points and Hannah Collins had eight points.

South Greene 57, Unaka 31

ELIZABETHTON — Kiley Collins knocked down six shots behind the 3-point line in a game-high 22 points for the Lady Rebels.

Myah Parlier had 18 for the Lady Rangers, who trailed just by one point after one quarter and by eight at the half.

Sullivan South 64, Sullivan North 14

KINGSPORT — The Lady Rebels jumped out to a 39-10 halftime lead and were even stingier on the defensive end in the second half, limiting the Lady Raiders to just four points.

Nicole Troutman led the South offense with 12 points, while Alex Harris and Chloe Nelson each scored 10 points.

Riley Absher scored six to lead North.

Cherokee 39, Claiborne 31

TAZEWELL — Harper Russell netted 16 points and Mataylin Goins had eight to lead the Lady Chiefs, who won despite being held scoreless in the third quarter.

Gracie Ray had 11 points for Claiborne in the loss.

Monday’s game

University High 52, KACHEA 29

Callie Newberry had 14 points, while Sarah Fisher and Bekah Rice each totaled nine to lead the Lady Bucs to the win over the Lady Wildcats.

University High limited KACHEA to just 12 second-half points.

Alexia Harper was the leading scorer for the Lady Wildcats with eight points, while Naomi Strickland and Emma Weber each scored six.
