HOUSTON — Jasmyne Harris scored 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Houston women’s basketball team to an 88-69 win over East Tennessee State on Sunday afternoon inside HP&E Arena.

The Lady Cougars (8-2) scored the first five points of the game and never trailed against the Bucs (6-5). Houston had a 23-14 lead at the end of one quarter and it was 46-31 at the half. It was the sixth straight win for the Lady Cougars, who have their longest winning streak since the 2010-11 season when they reeled off 17 straight victories.

Tianna Tarter had 19 points and five assists to lead ETSU, which struggled from the field, hitting just 20 of 65 shots. The Bucs made only 20 percent of longer shots, just 5 of 25 from 3-point range.

Making it more of an uphill climb, Houston held a 52-34 rebounding advantage. Angela Harris and Serithia Hawkins each contributed 12 points to the Cougars’ victory.

Shy Copney scored 15 points, and Erica Haynes-Overton added 10 points for ETSU, while Brittney Snowden barely missed double figures with nine. Malloree Schurr, who is from nearby Montgomery, Texas, led ETSU with seven rebounds.

But her inspired play wasn’t nearly enough against a Houston team which led by as many as 25 points in the second half.

ETSU will travel to NC State to take on the Wolfpack on Thursday before coming home on Saturday to host Michigan State.
