Jr. Bucs flatten Twin Springs

TWIN SPRINGS, Va. — Behind 28 points, nine rebounds and three steals from Kaleb Meredith, University High overwhelmed Twin Springs (Va.) 80-40 in high school basketball action Tuesday night.

Meredith went 11 of 17 from the field, draining four of his seven 3-point attempts.

Charlie Vargo tossed in 13 points for the Jr. Bucs, who led this game 48-14 at halftime. Joseph Harless had 11 points, A.J. Simerly tallied nine and both players harvested seven boards.

Dobyns-Bennett 83

Johnson County 62

MOUNTAIN CITY—Minus the third quarter, Johnson County basically played on even terms with Dobyns-Bennett.

The Indians, however, outscored the Longhorns 24-7 in the third to seize control of this rare non-conference matchup.

Riamello Wadsworth pitched in 16 points, Charlie Browder 15 and Brodie Potter 13 for the Indians. Wadsworth and Potter each connected three times from behind the arc.

Showing the way for Johnson County, which played D-B to a 32-32 halftime tie, was Bud Icenhour with 16 points (three 3-pointers). Blake Atwood added 14, with Sean Lewis scoring 13 and Jordan Eads 12.

The ’Horns now travel to Steambolt Springs, Colorado, for a tournament. They take on Colorado Academy on Thursday.

Veritas Christian 68

Providence Academy 48

FLETCHER, N.C.—Colby Backus had a huge game for the Knights, tossing in 32 points, but Providence couldn’t overcome a rough first quarter at Veritas.

Blake Hamrick pitched in 25 points and Nemo Tanoskoric 17 for the winners, who outscored the Knights 19-6 in the opening period.

Backus and Hamrick each converted three 3-pointers.

South Greene 51

GREENEVILLE—The Greene Devils needed a 16-8 fourth quarter to rally past upset-minded South Greene.

Nathaniel Moon pitched in 18 points and Dorien Goddard 16 to pace Greeneville. Moon went 4 of 6 from 3-point range.

The Rebels’ Lorenz Bank produced 23 points in a 10-of-14 shooting display and pulled down 11 rebounds. Chiming in with 11 points was teammate Landon Brown.

ELIZABETHTON—Peyton Sams drained a 3-point bucket off an inbound play with 1.9 seconds to go, lifting the Lady Cougars in a tight one with Happy Valley.

Central got all of its scoring from four players, with Taylor Sanders totaling 17 points, Avery Leming 15, Abbey Crawford 13 and Sams 11.

Leming did all of her scoring before halftime on five 3-pointers.

Adrienne Henegar was tops for the Lady Warriors, amassing 17 points with the aid of four 3-point goals. Kate Roberts and Tiana Long added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Providence Academy 50

Veritas Christian 38

FLETCHER, N.C. — Veritas Christian had no answers for Madi Runnels on Tuesday as she operated for 21 points in a Providence Academy victory.

Jordan Spano had 13 points for the Lady Knights, who gradually took control of the contest.

Hannah Alexander collected 17 points, including four 3-pointers, for Veritas.

TWIN SPRINGS, Va. — Ryleigh Owen had seven points and Delaney Trosin had five for the Lady Bucs, who were held to just four points in the first half.
