A four-run seventh inning propelled the Elizabethton Twins to a 7-3 victory over the Kingsport Mets in the opening game of the Appalachian League semifinals Friday night at Hunter Wright Stadium.

Gilberto Celestino had a home run and drove in two runs, while Alex Robles had three RBIs for the Twins, who won the Appy League West Division title.

Elizabethton starter Josh Wilder held the Mets to one run over six innings. He allowed four hits and struck out eight batters. Jacob Blanks worked the final 2 1/3 innings for the save.

Kingsport, which finished second behind the Twins in the regular season, was held to six hits. Mark Vientos had two of them.

Elizabethton’s big inning was keyed by Celestino’s two-run homer. Robles and Ricky De La Torre each had an RBI single in the fateful frame.

The two teams meet again Saturday at 6 p.m. at Elizabethton’s Joe O’Brien Field. Elizabethton can clinch the series while the Mets need to win to remain alive.

The Bluefield Blue Jays opened the other semifinal with a 12-7 win over the Princeton Rays. The winners of the two best-of-three series will meet for the league title.
