Cards can't keep pace with Burlington, lose 13-5

Victimized for 17 hits Tuesday night, Johnson City was defeated by Burlington 13-5 in an Appalachian League baseball game at TVA Credit Union Ballpark.

Eric Cole went 4 for 6 with a double and two runs for the Royals, who got four RBIs and four runs in a 3-for-4 effort from Jose Marquez. A five-run Burlington ninth was highlighted by Marquez with a three-run home run.

Adding three hits apiece for the winners were Chris Hudgins (double, 3 RBIs) and Brhet Bewley (2 doubles, 2 runs). Isaiah Henry socked a two-bagger while adding a 2-for-4, 2-RBI showing.

There wasn’t much wrong with the Cardinals’ offense, which produced a dozen hits. Liam Sabino and Donivan Williams each batted 2 for 3, with Sabino doubling twice and driving in two runs. Williams accounted for one double.

Zach Jackson (double, 2 runs), Luis Flores and Leandro Cedeno contributed two hits apiece for Johnson City.

Cedeno blasted a solo homer in the ninth.

Yerelmy Garcia (4-2) yielded four runs (three earned) over 5 1/3 innings before Andrew Nunez pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings. Kyle Hinton worked the ninth.

Cole Aker (2-2) absorbed the loss, allowing six runs over 4 2/3 frames.
