GREENEVILLE—A mixture of Luis Rijo, Pedro Garcia and a spotless defensive effort proved vexing to the Greeneville Reds on Tuesday night.

Rijo pitched 6 2/3 innings, Garcia handled things from there and Elizabethton failed to commit an error in a 6-0 Appalachian League baseball shutout.

Rijo (4-1) allowed five hits and Garcia one. Greeneville struck out just three times, so outstanding defensive work by the Twins proved to be a key ingredient in the outcome.

Elizabethton’s Albee Weiss and Ricky De La Torre each batted 2 for 4, with Weiss collecting a double. Robert Molina highlighted a five-run fourth with a three-run double.

Lean Marrero’s RBI single put Elizabethton ahead 1-0 in the third. Batting second in the top of the fourth, Jean Carlos Arias scored on a triple and one-base error. De La Torre added a run-scoring single as the visiting team cranked out 11 hits.

Leadoff man Mike Siana led Greeneville by going 2 for 4.
