GREENEVILLE—Stellar pitching anchored Elizabethton’s Appalachian League baseball victory on Monday night.

A pair of solo home runs got the Twins, who defeated Greeneville 4-1, off to an electric start.

Lean Marrero belted a leadoff homer, Yunior Severino immediately followed with a wall-clearing shot and Elizabethton was on its way to stopping a three-game skid.

Starter Kody Funderburk and Brian Rapp (1-3) each threw four innings before Johan Quezada worked the ninth for his second save.

Rapp, who totaled six strikeouts, surrendered the lone run (unearned) by the Reds.

Raul Juarez produced a sacrifice fly for Greeneville in the seventh, making it a 2-1 game. However, after an error prolonged the Elizabethton eighth, Jean Carlos Arias socked a two-run triple.

The Reds put two runners aboard with one out in the ninth, but Quezada retired the next two batters.

Elizabethton (28-21) and Greeneville (20-31) cap their three-game series tonight. Start time is 7.
