BRISTOL, Va. — The Bristol Pirates swept the Johnson City Cardinals in an Appalachian League doubleheader Monday night, and they won both games in their final at-bat.

Victor Ngoepe’s solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the Pirates an 8-7 victory in the nightcap after Sherten Apostel’s RBI single in the seventh gave them a 2-1 win in the opener.

Andrew Warner’s two-run homer capped a three-run seventh inning for the Cardinals, one that allowed them to tie the game at 7.

Ngoepe then led off with his home run off of Cardinals reliever David Oca.

In the opener, Apostel’s hit came off Johnson City reliever Parker Kelly, who fell to 4-2 after allowing two hits and a walk in 2/3 of an inning.

Johnson City third baseman Nolan Gorman was chosen as the Appalachian League’s player off the week after hitting .552 with three home runs last week. He went 1 for 3 in the opener.

Pirates starter Shane Baz was lifted with two outs in the fifth inning after allowing four hits and three walks.

Victor Ngoepe gave the Pirates a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the fifth inning. The Cardinals tied it up in the sixth inning of the seven-inning game when Luis Flores’ sacrifice fly scored Donivan Williams.

The Cards had at least one runner on base in every inning, yet could not scratch onto the scoreboard until the sixth.

Johnson City starter Dionis Zamora was left searching for his first victory of the season despite pitching well. He held Bristol to four hits and struck out four while walking two over five innings.
